Research into career/education advice and guidance and Gypsies, Roma and Travellers

ACERT has been invited to take a consultancy role on a research project being led by Dr Laura Way, Senior Lecturer in Sociology in the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences University of Roehampton, London. Candace Thomas (ACERT Vice-Chair) and Hazel Marsh (EC member) are supporting the application.

The project will explore Careers, Education Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) in relation to home education and Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showmen and Boater (GTRSB) communities in the UK.  The research questions are:

  1. What current practices concerning the provision of CEIAG amongst GTRSB home educators exist?
  2. What are GTRSB home educators’ needs with regards to CEIAG?
  3. What CEIAG is currently available for GTRSB home educators? What good practice exists within (in terms of being inclusive, culturally responsive)?
  4. How effective might co-developed CEIAG resources for GRT home educators, which are inclusive and culturally responsive, be?
