Advice and support for families facing exclusion from school

CEN (POSTER)

The Community Empowerment Network has asked ACERT to publicise their services amongst the Travelling communities.
Marc Lorenzi writes:

” I am concerned that year after year Traveler’s feature among the most
disproportionately excluded and under achieving groups however we don’t
receive referrals or enjoy any type of narrative with Travelling
communities.

This is a snapshot of what we can offer:

  • Support with young people at risk of exclusion
  • Free legal advice and representation
  • Exclusion appeals
  • Support with school reintegration
  • Advocacy training for practitioners. “

We’d be happy to receive feedback from any ACERT members who use this service.

Successful mediator trainees

Image - Version 2

Eighteen trainees from Gypsy, Irish Traveller and Roma communities were presented with certificates by Marcos Andrade
Project Manager ROMED, Ian Naysmith Department of Communities and Local Government and Keith Whitmore, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. The trainees participated in two residential sessions totalling six days, and also completed an assignment. A further six trainees were unable to attend the final session, but we recognise their contributions and hope it will be possible to include them in future training.

ACERT  hopes to make the case for a future course and any Community members wishing to participate can express interest by following this link. The training is intended for community members whose work (paid or voluntary) includes mediation.

Thank you to all who contributed to this important initiative.

Responses to s444(6) consultation

The consultation on the repeal of s444(6) ended on Friday 22nd February, but the campaign goes on. Below are our submission and those from some of our partner organisations. If anyone would like their submission to be added, please email it to us at admin@acert.org.uk. Having a record in one place of all the arguments put would be valuable. Feedback from the Department of Education suggests that there has been a significant response.
